Our fun day at Nubo in Alexandria

Nubo in Alexandria, Sydney - Little Miss getting excited to see what's inside

We finally made our way to Nubo in Alexandria, Sydney, for some play fun! The first of its kind in Australia, Nubo is a beautifully designed space that encourages children and families to play, explore, connect, grow and learn together.

Having attracted the likes of mothers all around, including PR queen Roxy Jacenko, I was keen to take my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and catch up with a friend at the same time.

Forget what you know about children’s playgrounds. There were no bright colours and big pictures on the walls. When you walk in you are greeted with pale blue and white walls and polished wood.

Built around best practices for early childhood education through the lens of play, Nubo supports play and educational growth through exploration and connection.

The aesthetically beautiful centre promotes a sense of ‘pure play’ through a clean and considered 768sqm floor space where parents and children can interact during the entire play process - which is what I loved about it.

The word Nubo translates as ‘cloud’ in Esperanto, a language invented in the late 1870’s to foster harmony between people from different countries.

With soft lighting, natural materials and curves, it is a safe but boundless environment for children to enjoy.

Features include:

  • a stunning library weaved around a giant hot air balloon where kids can read

  • a building room full of Big Blue Blocks, magformers and Kaleido Gears

  • a zone for active play including a giant climbing frame where little ones can slide, climb and hide

  • the Nubo Café with an emphasis on healthy, wholesome food made fresh to order

  • a range of children’s master classes including cooking, art, music and coding

  • facilitated play sessions

Each area has a number of children allowed per activity and the physical ones have an age recommendation too. The whole centre caters for kids up to the age of 10.

The verdict?

Finding the center for the first time was a little challenging as the signage wasn't very prominent (in my opinion). I also wasn't sure where I should park so I had to call and ask for guidance. But overall, we absolutely loved it! The whole vibe was relaxing and nurturing for our little ones. And I loved that we could enjoy wholesome food and a beverage.

Little Miss was entertained for around two hours, and the only reason we left was to beat the afternoon city traffic. We could have easily spent all day there.

It took a bit of time for us to get to (we live in the north-west of Sydney), but I was excited to learn that a new Nubo will be opening in Chatswood Chase in April 2018! The location is much closer to me, and who doesn't love going to Chatswood Chase?

I love that Nubo is suitable for children 0-10 years, but all are welcome.
